Treat Yo Self Day

Happy Tuesday! I’m so excited about today’s post because it’s inspired by one of my favorite shows… Parks and Rec! Treat Yo Self Day is a day all about treating yourself to the finer things in life. Of course, I had to include it in my spring bucket list! Luckily, the last time I was home I was able to spend a day shopping with my mom. So, today I thought I’d share a few of my favorite shops, tips for your own treat yo self day, & what’s still on my wish list!

Where We Shopped

I love shopping with my mom, and the Summit in Birmingham is one of our favorite places! It’s great because we’re able to take blog pictures with the beautiful backgrounds, shop around and catch up, then grab some amazing food. My mom is a great shopping buddy, because she and I have similar styles but I also know she’ll be honest with me about what’s worth purchasing.

The Summit has a wide variety of shops, but I’ll just share some of my favorites. Charming Charlie is my go-to for accessories… and of course I love that the store is organized by color. I also always love to pop in to Anthropologie, Free People, and Madewell. Normally their pieces are way out of my price range, but I love getting inspiration from their clothing and decoration. And I have scored some amazing deals in their clearance rooms! Another one of my favorites is Francesca’s… I love that their pieces are unique but can also be great prices. Francesca’s has been one of my favorite places to buy game day outfits – who knew navy blue and orange was so hard to find?!

My Treat Yo Self Day Tips

1. Bring a reliable shopping buddy. I already mentioned that I love shopping with my mom, and she really is the best shopping buddy! She’s a great sounding board when I’m not sure about a piece. Bring along your mom, your sister, or a friend who you trust and you won’t end your Treat Yo Self day with regrets.

2. Dedicate a few hours. I am never able to get any good shopping done in five minutes (unless I’m popping in to Target, of course!). When I have time, I’m able to look around and make sure I truly love what I’m buying. I recommend setting aside enough time to not feel rushed.

3. Have a shopping game plan. This is so important for me! I always make a list of the stores I know I want to visit, so that way if I’m short for time I know I at least went to stores I loved. Also, I keep a running list on my phone of pieces I’m on the lookout for. Right now, my list has olive green jeans and a sleeveless denim chambray top. I keep those in mind while I’m shopping, but I also let myself stray from the list if I see something I love!

4. Save money in small ways. I’m a member of the e-mail list and free rewards programs offered by most of the places I normally shop at, which is a great way to get coupon codes! The emails can be annoying, but I find it helpful especially if one of your favorite stores announces a huge sale on a day you were going to shop.

5. Set a budget. Last year, my friends and I had our own Treat Yo Self day, and I was able to use a gift card that was about to expire. Because I had a gift card, I knew I had to spend the money but I also knew I couldn’t go over. Keeping the amount of money you’re able to spend in mind is the most important tip.

6. Treat yo self! With that being said, Treat Yo Self day is a day to buy something you normally wouldn’t! I am a major creature of habit when it comes to clothes (more on that this Thursday!) but when I step out of my comfort zone I sometimes find pieces that I surprisingly love.

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading this post! I hope it inspired you to treat yourself soon… Below I’ll be sharing a few things on my wish list, so go ahead and treat yourself for the both of us!

xoxo, Cecilia
