first day of fall style

Happy first day of fall and welcome to the most beautiful season of the year! Autumn is my favorite season for so many reasons: the satisfying crunch of leaves under my (boot-clad) feet, chillier weather that lends itself to cozy layers & delicious drinks (salted caramel mocha, anyone?), picturesque scenery filled with warm colors, and of course, fall fashion.

Now, just because it’s the first day of fall does not mean that Alabama weather got that message… it’s hot as ever down south which makes it difficult to dress for the new season. With that in mind, I’m sharing my favorite pieces that will make the transition from summer to fall style seamless! (Bonus: you may have a few in your closet already!)

1. Ankle boots: I would be lying if I said I only wore my ankle boots in the colder seasons, but when the weather starts to turn from summer to fall, I turn to them almost all the time. Ankle boots are my favorite shoes because they’re comfortable, they add an instant stylish factor to any outfit, and while they’re not as warm as tall boots, they look perfect with fall outfits. My gray suede ankle boots from Old Navy are my absolute favorites, but I’m linking a few (under $50!) styles below as well!

2. Autumnal hues: I’m not a huge fan of dressing “for the season” in terms of colors in patterns; if you want to rock a bright pink in winter, go for it! However, I appreciate using certain colors (deep mustard, oranges, burgundy) to evoke the mood of fall. I picked up this bright yellow cardigan on sale last season and I’ve already been surprised with how much wear I get out of it! Below, I’ll link a few of my favorite basic t-shirt picks in fall colors (all under $25!) so you can start building your fall wardrobe!

3. Light layers: I love cardigans and all of my friends can attest to the fact that I normally have a cardigan with me because I get cold so easily. In the fall, my love for cardigans can really shine because they’re the perfect weather-appropriate layer: they’re light enough that you don’t sweat through them, but they add just enough warmth so you’re not shivering with every chilly breeze. Plus, layers are one of the best parts of fall fashion, and cardigans are one of the most foolproof ways to layer; you grab your cardigan, throw it on, and you’re good. If it gets too hot in the day, you can tie it around your waist for a “casual, but chic” look that I never manage to pull off. (Style tip: shop for cardigans & sweaters at the tail end of the season for the best deals! You may feel crazy buying a sweater in summer, but those prices will make it worth it)

I hope you all enjoyed this style transition post – I had so much fun writing it! I really cannot wait until autumn (and chilly weather!) is in full swing so I can start sharing my favorite fall looks. Let me know what you’re looking forward to most this fall in the comments so we can obsess over our favorites together!

Thanks for reading!
