6 Ways to Spend a Saturday (When College Football Is Over)

This post is a collaboration with Fouta Colors. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Sunny Side Cecilia!

College football is almost over, which means we’re about to have plenty of free time on Saturdays! If you’re anything like me, you always have high hopes for everything you’ll do in the weekend. By the time the weekend comes around though, all you do is the same old, same old… aka Netflix and naps. Today I’m partnering with Fouta Colors and sharing 6 ways to spend a Saturday. When I’m intentional about my plans, I always end up having so much fun! This list is full of things I actually do with my friends or things I want to do.

A few of these feature my fouta from Fouta Colors. I chose the charcoal gray with white stripes because I knew it would go perfectly with my decor in this apartment AND my next apartment. The traditional foutas are less than $40, and with my code “WAREAGLE” you can get 20% off until November 15th! Potential Christmas gifts, anyone?!

1. Have a picnic with friends!

Okay, this was the MOST fun. One of my best friends, Maggie, and I grabbed coffee and had a little picnic on Samford Lawn! The weather has been so weird here in Auburn – chilly one day, warm the next – but I want to enjoy autumn while I can. What better way to do that than with a picnic?! For this picnic, Maggie and I brought homework to do… and ended up doing none at all. Oops.

So, the next Saturday that you see there’s good weather, text a few friends, pick up some Starbucks, and settle down in a spot on campus or in your city.

2. Explore a new part of your town.

If you’re anything like me, you get stuck in your routines. It’s truly embarrassing how often I go to Taco Mama with friends. A free Saturday is the perfect time to break out of your routine and try something new. Opelika is a 20 minute drive from Auburn, and my friends and I always want to go and walk around. This Saturday, I’m planning on going with a friend and exploring. You never know what you might find – or what spot could become your new favorite!

3. Host a baking potluck.

Any time there’s food involved is a good time in my opinion! Invite your friends to your house and tell them to BYOBG – bring your own baked goods. Whether they’re store-bought or homemade, everyone will have a ton of fun trying different treats. Eat some delicious food, listen to music, and catch up with your friends. If you’ve been wanting to have a low-key party or to introduce your friends to each other, this is the perfect occasion. Plus, everyone will get to go home with sweet leftovers.

4. Settle in with a new book or movie.

Not every Saturday is picture perfect. Some Saturdays the weather is gross, and some Saturdays we really just want to stay in. Nothing’s wrong with relaxing and taking time to yourself! Of course, you can always invite some friends over to watch Netflix together. I keep a little basket of blankets (#extra) which I love for times like these, because my friends can all grab a blanket to snuggle with. Also, if you’re looking for something new to watch… watch The Haunting of Hill House. I know Halloween is over, but just do it.

5. Find something unexpected.

Going along with #2, go out of your normal routine and try something new. Maybe there’s a museum you’ve been wanting to check out or a festival that’s coming to your town for the weekend only. Use your free Saturday as an opportunity to finally change it up. If you see a post on Instagram about a farmer’s market nearby, screenshot it and write it down! Make a list of notes on your phone of places to check out, so when the time comes to make plans, you’re already ready.

6. Grab a coffee and take a walk.

And now, one of my favorite (and super easy) way to spend a Saturday – grab a coffee with a friend and walk around. I love the atmosphere of coffee shops, but sometimes they stress me out. I like to grab my vanilla latte to go and explore the campus or downtown with a friend. This is especially great on a Saturday when you want to be productive, but don’t want to stay cooped up indoors.

What’s your favorite way to spend a Saturday… when there’s no college football to watch?!

xoxo, Cecilia
