HOW TO STYLE A COLORFUL BLAZER 4 WAYS

4 ideas for how to style a colorful blazer

If you couldn’t tell by now, I absolutely loving adding color to my wardrobe. Adding color to your closet can be overwhelming if you typically stick to neutrals, so I love to share realistic ways to style color. I love this purple blazer I rented from Nuuly and was immediately inspired to build outfits around it. I did a little brainstorming and have you covered with four ideas of how to style a colorful blazer.

SHORT + SWEET

I’m honestly not on board with the blazer and biker shorts trend—my brain just can’t make sense of wearing a blazer with an outfit I’d wear to work out in! But, I do love making a blazer more casual, so I paired it with a pair of denim shorts that are a bit longer and complete with a fun pattern. Add on a pair of fun tennis shoes and you’ve got a fun weekend look that’ll take you from the farmer’s market to rooftop drinks.

Btw—rented these shorts from Nuuly. I can’t find them online to link, but you can always use my Nuuly link to get $10 off your first month!

KEEP IT GRAPHIC

A blazer + graphic tee are my love language. A fitted, structured blazer, no matter how colorful, can take on a more formal feeling, so by pairing with a fun graphic tee, we make it casual and perfect for the weekend.

I picked up this tee from Knoxville-based artist Paris Woodhull and have gotten so much use out of it. If you’re never quite sure how to style graphic tees with bands or cities you’ve never been to, I find that a beautiful art graphic is a perfect in-between that adds a pop of color but doesn’t feel like you’re a walking billboard.

WEAR THE RAINBOW

Have you ever heard of “dopamine dressing”? If you’re unfamiliar, it’s the concept of wearing bright colors and fun patterns that feel like a hit of dopamine! For me, this outfit is the perfect way to get started if you aren’t ready to wear tons of patterns. A few bold colors together feel trendy, but they don’t feel too busy when they’re solid like these. If you’re not sure how to style a colorful blazer but love color, just load on the solid colors. I thrifted these Alfred Dunner pants, but you can likely find similar ones at any thrift store—linking a different color here (on sale for $31 right now).

BLACK ON BLACK

Nothing makes me feel more confident than wearing all black + throwing on a blazer, but to make this outfit more “fun” than professional, I also threw on my favorite pair of earrings… a pair of disco balls. Even if you don’t choose to wear mirrorball earrings, wearing a colorful blazer with a monochrome base makes that bold color feel so much more approachable.

Thanks for reading and indulging me with my love of color and my love of planning outfits! 💘
