7 Reasons YOU Should Start a Blog in 2019

The new year is almost here (!!) which means New Year’s resolutions are in full swing. Before you finish your list, I’m giving you one more item to add to it – jumping out of your comfort zone and starting a blog… especially if you’ve always wanted to! Today I’m sharing 7 reasons YOU should start a blog in 2019!

1. You’re passionate about something – fashion, photography, reading… anything!

No matter what it is you’re interested in, there’s bound to be someone else who wants to read about it. Before I began blogging, I read tons of blogs about how to start one and they all said to define your niche. Instead of choosing only one thing to blog about, I decided to blog about what I was interested in – fashion, sales, tips for the college girl. I want everything to be seen through the lens of positivity and looking at the sunny side of life, but I love that I’m not confined to one subject. So, I suggest finding what you’re passionate about but not worrying if it fits into one specific niche.

2. You want to get out of your comfort zone.

Blogging has helped me grow in confidence in so many ways. For the first year of blogging, I was so shy whenever someone mentioned they had seen it. Plus, I would get so embarrassed taking blog photos! Now that I’ve been blogging a few years, I am so proud of the work I’ve put into it, and whenever someone tells me they’ve read it, I get excited that one more person knows about it! Also, trust me, blog photo shoots get SO much better as the time goes on, and you stop caring.

3. You want to create a portfolio you’re proud of, especially when internship time comes around.

This one is especially relevant for me as I’m applying to internships. If you’re looking for any internship that involves writing, you may have to have a portfolio or submit writing samples. Of course, you can use schoolwork, but I love showing that I’m passionate about writing on my own time. In my personal eportfolio, I included sponsored blog posts I’d written for brands to show that I can create content for brands other than my own.

4. You want to start a new hobby.

And by hobby, I don’t mean Netflix marathons! One thing I love about blogging is that it’s 100% what you make of it. If you want to blog once a month, you do you. If you’re hoping to turn your hobby into a side hustle, you can put more time into it. I’m always wanting to start a new hobby, so I love that with my blog, I can constantly improve and change.

5. Your outfits deserve to be #documented.

Okay, real talk… Before I started blogging, I kept a notebook full of my OOTDs and favorite outfit combos. I mean, was I supposed to be blogging or what?! If you’re the friend who forces asks your friends to take photos of your daily looks #NoShame… you should be a blogger.

6. You’ve seen other blogs and Instagrams and wished you could do it.

Another pre-blogging story: Before I published a single post, I filled a notebook with ideas. I included a paragraph with reasons I wanted to blog, and one was “I want to be a blogger”. Maybe not the most original of reasons, but it still holds true! If you’ve ever scrolled on Instagram and wished you were a blogger, that’s a pretty good sign.

7. Your story can help someone else feel less alone.

THIS. IS. THE. BIG. ONE. Any time I have any problem ever, I turn to the internet and I turn to my favorite bloggers. I know that I feel so much less alone when I read bloggers that have gone through the same things I’ve gone through – breakups, friend fights, stressful days. As much as I love working with brands, nothing is more exciting to me than receiving a comment or DM from someone who chose to trust me and related to me. At the end of the day, if my Instagram stays stuck at the same follower count forever or I never make a penny (not making pennies anyway tbh), I’ll know that I helped at least one person feel less alone, and that’s more than enough to me. So, have I convinced you?! If you decide to start a blog this year, I’d love to know! Please feel free to comment below or DM me on Instagram! xoxo, Cecilia
