Habits to Start in 2019

We’re a few weeks into 2019, but it’s never too late to start planning for the new year! I’m not a big fan of resolutions, but I am all about goals. Today I’ll be sharing habits to start in 2019 that would be perfect to add to your list of plans for the year.

1. Spend 10 minutes every night cleaning your room.

Last semester, I finally got into the habit of cleaning my room regularly… and it made me so happy! After I finished my homework, I would light a candle and spend ten minutes decluttering. I put all my dirty clothes in the laundry, make sure I’ve taken dishes down to the kitchen, and get my bag ready for the next morning. It’s crazy how much more peaceful I feel with a clean room!

2. Make fitness a priority… but be reasonable.

Instead of resolving to go to the gym 5 days a week when you haven’t been for years, make a reasonable goal. Now that you’ve had time to settle into your schedule, plan on working out when you can, but start small. Once you get into the habit of working out (and doing workouts you enjoy), you’ll feel a difference in energy. Then, you’ll actually want to work out more!

3. Start a hobby just for you.

I’ve shared reasons you should start a blog in 2019, and I truly think it’s one of the most creative and rewarding hobbies you can have. BUT… after blogging for a few years (and being lucky enough to turn this hobby into a small side hustle), it feels more and more like a job than a hobby. So, I recommend starting hobbies that are completely for your own enjoyment. Last year I spent a few months doodling little drawings just for fun, and just last week I finished knitting a scarf! I love these hobbies because they were only for me.

4. Track your books & movies.

This might seem like a weird habit to start, but it’s one of my favorites! Whether you read a lot of books or watch a ton of movies, you probably don’t remember them all (trust me… I’ve been there). I created a spreadsheet last year to track the movies I’d seen and rated them. Then… my laptop crashed and I lost every file. I was way more sad about losing that list than I should have been. I learned my lesson and started a Google Drive version, but I love being able to look back and easily see what movies were my favorite throughout the year.

5. Make a commitment to strengthen your faith.

There are so many habits you could pick up that would help grow your faith. A few of my favorites are committing to reading the Bible/a devotional every night, promising to go to Adoration/a prayer service once a week, or keeping up with a prayer journal.

What habits will you be adding to your 2019 plans?! I’d love to know!

Thanks for reading,

Cecilia
