Summer to Fall Fashion Tips

It’s 60 degrees outside. I’ve constantly got a lavender candle burning. I’ve started my yearly attempt at rewatching Supernatural. It’s finally fall. AKA it’s time to start going from summer to fall fashion and finding ways to use different pieces throughout the seasons. Other than cozying up in a sweatshirt every day, here are a few of my favorite tips for transitioning your favorite summer pieces to work for fall!

PLAY WITH TEXTURES

If you’re in that odd place where it’s too warm to be wearing a thick sweater but too cold to wear a tank and shorts, make sure to play with textures! Instead of a linen tank top, look for a velvet tank. These textures will evoke the feel of a sweater without making you feel too hot by mid-afternoon.

ADD FALL ACCESSORIES

Floppy felt hats. Chunky scarves. Ankle boots. Fall fashion is the best for my fellow accessory lovers. Simple accessories are easy to throw on, but they make you look like you have your life together. On days when I’m sipping my third cup of (lukewarm) coffee and my to-do list doesn’t seem like it’s going to end, wearing outfits I feel confident in can help boost my mood.

LAYER, LAYER, LAYER

Well, obviously. But, instead of sticking with your basic cardigan, switch it up! This year, a few of my favorite layering favorites are black moto jackets and cozy blazers. Layer one over a tank top now, and when it gets even cooler, pair it with a thick sweater.

CHANGE YOUR COLOR PALETTE

Honestly, I’m a big believer in ignoring fashion rules, BUT I do like general “guidelines”. In the fall, I like to transition from bright colors to more muted, natural colors like deep rose, olive green, and mustard yellow. These colors all pair well together, making it even easier to build your outfit at 6:30 in the morning.

Now that fall is officially here, I’m hoping to be better about making time for this little corner of the internet! Honestly, life has just been so busy lately that it’s hard to justify giving up plans (or sleep) to work on my blog or Instagram – but those things do bring me joy. This season of life, like any other, is full of learning how to balance. For now, that means writing a blog post when I’m inspired and motivated – and don’t have class the next day!
